Avidemux is a video editor for simple cutting, filtering and encoding tasks. It supports many popular file types, including AVI, DVD compatible MPEG files, MP4 (iPod) and ASF, using a variety of codecs that come included with the software. Just set the start and end point while the movie is playing in the preview window and save the selection as a new video file (the original remains unchanged).
