JAP enables anonymous web surfing with any browser through the use of integrated proxy services that hide your real IP address. The service uses a proxy mix cascade that effectively hides the identity of any one single user among the connections of all the other users - making it impossible, even for the proxy provider, to determine which IP belongs to which user. After installing JAP, you need to configure your browser to use the local proxy server (instructions provided) for web browsing. The provided control panel allows you to turn anonymity on or off, and also displays the current level of security. JAP comes pre-configured with several free service providers and also supports pay services. The free services are run by universities and other public infrastructures and are free of charge for the user; additional pay services are also offered.

TrustWatch is a toolbar for Internet Explorer, that lets consumers know if the web site they are visiting has been verified by a Trusted Third Party authority, like GeoTrust, Verisign, TRUSTe and others, or if it is contained in a blacklist of known sites. Most sites we visited during the review showed a "Not verified" which means neither good, nor bad. The verification is based on payment of a fee by the site owner. We tested it with a couple real phishing scams from our ever growing spam collection, and unfortunately the toolbar only gave the same "Not verified", which you will see most of the time. A good concept, but not (yet) reliable enough to be considered a serious measure to avoid online scams.

AVG LinkScanner integrates with your browser and alerts you of search engine results that link to sites using exploits, phishing scams, hoaxes or malicious software installations. The program works with search results from popular search engines including Google, Yahoo, Bing and others, and displays a color coded icon next to each search results to indicate whether a site contains any active threats. There are not details provided that further explain or elaborate the threats except for a generic risk category that is used to classify the site. We found it a little disturbing that AVG LinkScanner changes your browser setting by default, without explicit user permission, and redirects any HTTP error pages to a sponsored OpenDNS search page - a technique that many would consider browser hijacking, even though you can later turn off this `helpful feature` from the settings dialog.
