digital file shredder Freeraser is a digital file shredder that enables you to permanently delete sensitive data with multiple overwrites of random data. It offers a simple overwrite (fast) as well as to DoD 5220.22M (slower) and Gutmann (very slow) compatible deletion methods. The program is very easy to use, it adds a new waste bin icon to your desktop, and any file or folder that you drag onto the bin is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. Freeraser can also be installed in portable mode to your USB stick.

I was looking for a secure way to remove files from a mapped drive. Freeraser does it easily, just drag any file onto the icon and all trace of the file vanishes. showShow review details

There are other, and better, erasers available that integrate with your explorer menu so you can erase files directly from Windows explorer. showShow review details

The main attraction of Freeraser is that it is no install and can be carried around on a pen drive. One feature that I missed was a progress bar showing how long was left, which would be useful for longer files. Other than that, a useful program to have. showShow review details
