anti-virus and malware protection Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. The product replaces Windows Defender for malware protection and adds additional anti-virus, rootkit and Trojan scanning capabilities. It offers automatic updates, optional scanning of archive files, support for removable drives, email attachment scanning and more. There are also some advanced options to exclude files by type and location as well as customizable alert actions. Microsoft Security Essentials comes with a clean and easy to use interface. Other features include firewall integration, network traffic inspection and heuristic scanning. Note: As of 2013, Microsoft is no longer aiming to compete with other anti-virus tools and offers MSE as a "baseline" (better than nothing) protection. MS Security Essentials cannot be installed on Windows 8 because it already comes integrated with the operating system as "Windows Defender". Copyright

Nothing faster or better5 starsby jfheff7 Nov 30, 2016
Have been using Security Essentials as primary source for anti virus and malware prevention since Window XP, works just fine. Just use Malwarebytes free anti malware program every once in a while and all will be fine on a Windows PC. showReview details
Is it doing anything at all?3 starsby Montag May 16, 2016 (Read all my 2 reviews)
To be quite honest, I don't even think this does a thing for security. I've been running it for quite a while and scanning with it and it found nothing. HitmanPRO found 42 malware and spyware programs on my computer, fixed them all, and MSE found nothing. showReview details
Have changed MSE for avast antivirus2 starsby Stepan238 Oct 31, 2014 (Read all my 11 reviews)
MSE never seemed to do anything, it never found any nasties (while the free versions of SuperAntispyware and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware frequently do, albeit they are adware/spyware utilities)and so decided to have a look at Avast, and am keeping it. showReview details
