reduce the size of PDF files ORPALIS PDF Reducer enables you to reduce the file size of bulky PDF files by compressing and downscaling images and discarding unused objects. The resulting files can often be less that half the size of the original (sometimes even smaller) without noticeable quality differences. The program can batch process multiple files in a single operation, or you can switch to drag-n-drop mode to quickly process individual files from different locations. The defaults settings work very well and reduced file sizes by up to 90% during our tests - the results may vary depending on the content of the PDF file. You can further tweak the settings by adjusting image compression and other aspects of the size reduction process. The free version brings up a 5 second nag screen during batch processing and each time you launch the application. Since most users probably won't be reducing PDF files on a daily basis, this shouldn't be too much of hurdle. Copyright Snapfiles.com

Astonishingly effective 5 stars by Harlan Jun 27, 2014 (Read all my 57 reviews)
I tested it on a few documents with embedded images and tables, and the compression was 75-90. For comparison, using "7z" compression on the original files yielded about 10 compression. Excellent performance and a clean interface. The nag screens are a negligible annoyance in return for something that is so useful. show Review details
If it's something you need - get it 4 stars by EmpressTrudy Apr 18, 2013 (Read all my 16 reviews)
PDF files are generally pretty efficient sizewise. But if you really need to shrink them and it's a large file and you avoid zipping them then by all means do this. The amount of compaction isn't consistent but it clearly works for very large files better than small ones. show Review details
