Tons of features 5 stars by tarquinbiscuitbarrel Jul 16, 2007 (Read all my 3 reviews)
R-Firewall works well. It has a lot of features and it's relatively easy to use: harder than some (ZoneAlarm), but easier than others (Jetico). At setup, it detects some commonly used programs on your machine and offers to configure the firewall around these, making interruptions less frequent when first using it. I've also noticed that it will even prompt whether to use certain .dll's and plug-ins, such as the first times I accessed a browser page with Java-- R-Firewall prompted me for each java .dll. Another time, I watched an embedded Windows Media movie and was similarly barraged with prompts, which I actually found useful and was pleasantly surprised that it was checking things on that level. In addition, it uses relatively little resources (about 10-14 MB of memory) on my aging machine. I'm not sure if this is the most secure firewall out there, but it is the best for my purposes. showShow review details
Mixed feelings 4 stars by Dragon10 Nov 17, 2006 (Read all my 40 reviews)
On the 'upside', I really warmed to R-FireWall. Its interface is well laid-out and pleasing on the eye. With much of the configuration being processed during the installation, setting the rules for the remaining applications is straightforward. On the 'downside', wanting to use this excellent application to its fullest capacity I wanted to learn how to configure 'Attack Detection' but the Technical Support was not forthcoming. Reviewing the EULA it clearly stated this would be available via electronic communication. This was pointed out and the support was promptly received. However, during the time R-FireWall was on my PC I received 'Error Report' requests which dented my confidence in this, otherwise, excellent product. It was with much regret and a great deal of reluctance that I, therefore, uninstalled R-FireWall from my PC. Recommended but maybe a bug or two could do with ironing out. The choice is yours. showShow review details
No stealth!!! 3 stars by moparmac Mar 10, 2006 (Read all my 11 reviews)
This is a fine software firewall except for one thing. It does not get a stealth rating at Shields Up firewall scan site.It shows a high majority of ports as "closed" thereby visible. showShow review details
Why so low in popularity? 4 stars by autocart Dec 22, 2005 (Read all my 6 reviews)
I like it. Maybe because my demands are not so high? I want to see which programs want to access the network. That seems to work well. It has a simple but nice wizard at the beginning too. What could be better: A better programs-Description (especially the file-path) should be shown with the pop-up window, where I have to decide, what to allow to the program. And it is REAL freeware (not just for non-profit organizations -> as far as I understand the license). showShow review details
Very cool!! 5 stars by v2c5k93 Oct 05, 2005
This firewall is very cool!! I really like how detailed the port information is. It suited my needs excellently. Once you get the hang of the interface and the rules. It is smooth sailing. showShow review details
